Hassan Shehata ( Arabic حسن شحاتة Hasan Schihāta , DMG Ḥasan Šiḥāta ; Born June 19, 1949 in Kafr el-Dawwar ) is an Egyptian former soccer player and current soccer coach .

Time as a player

As a player, he began his career at the Egyptian club al-Zamalek SC for which he played from 1967 to 1968, before he went to Kuwait for two years for Kazma SC . In 1971 he returned to Zamalek and played there until the end of his playing career in 1983.

Shehata was Egypt's top scorer in 1976/77 with 17 goals and 1979/80 with 14 goals. He scored a total of 77 goals for Zamalek in the Egyptian league. Between 1974 and 1980 he took part in three African Championships with the national team.

Time as a trainer

Between 2001 and 2003 he was in charge of the junior national team of Egypt, with which he won the 2003 Junior Africa Cup. Between November 2004 and June 2011 he was the coach of the Egyptian national soccer team, with whom he celebrated winning the soccer championship in 2006 , 2008 and 2010 . In 2008 he was named Africa's Coach of the Year.

Shehata caused a stir in the media with the statement that without godly behavior he would never field a player, regardless of his potential.

After he missed the qualification for the African Cup of Nations in 2012 , he resigned on June 6, 2011 in Cairo as the national coach of Egypt.

In April 2012, Hasan Ismaik , investor at TSV 1860 Munich , hired him as a personal sports advisor.
