The Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium ( English Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium ) is the national stadium of Brunei in Bandar Seri Begawan . It is currently mainly used for soccer games. There is space for 28,000 spectators in the stadium.
The construction of the stadium was financed by public funds of around 100 million Brunei dollars .
For the 70th birthday of the long-time Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin III. the stadium was opened on September 23, 1983. As part of the opening, a soccer encounter between the Brunei national soccer team and the English fourth division club Sheffield United took place. Sheffield won it 1-0.
