The Hatch Plain is a small, 1350 m high plateau covered by debris in the East Antarctic Coatsland . In the Shackleton Range it is on the eastern edge of the Du-Toit Nunatakker in the Read Mountains .
The United States Navy first took aerial photographs in 1967. The British Antarctic Survey carried out measurements between 1968 and 1971. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1972 after the British geologist Frederick Henry Hatch (1864-1932), author of standard works on igneous and sedimentary petrology .
