Haters Back Off is an American - Canadian comedy series based on the character Miranda Sings created by Colleen Ballinger . The first season was released on Netflix on October 14, 2016 , the second season on December 20, 2017. After the second season, Netflix discontinued the series.

Miranda Sings is a character played by Colleen Ballinger. Miranda uploads videos on YouTube in which she sings, dances or talks about herself. Although she has little talent, she thinks she's one of the best singers and entertainers at all and appears negative topics or interprets it only as Hater (of English. Hate - hatred). The Miranda Sings channel has over 10 million subscribers.
Ballinger and her brother Chris Ballinger came up with the idea of dedicating a television series to the character Miranda. They are supported by the team of authors Perry Rein and Gigi McCreery, who have already worked for Friends .
In January 2016, the streaming provider Netflix ordered the first season of the series Haters Back Off . The series is the first script-based television series invented by a YouTube personality.

Miranda ( Colleen Ballinger ) is a teenager who lives in a small town in America with her mother and uncle and receives home schooling . She would like to become famous as a singer and therefore starts uploading videos of herself to YouTube. She is very self-confident, but actually hardly has any talent.
She receives support from her uncle Jim ( Steve Little ), who believes in her talent while living in the household. After being fired as a fish seller, he devotes a lot of time to the job as Miranda's manager and develops a five-step plan for success for her.
The sole breadwinner is Miranda's mother Bethany ( Angela Kinsey ), who works as a cashier in a supermarket. She always wears a bandage on her wrist because she thinks she has an undiagnosed disease.
Emily (Francesca Reale) thinks little of her sister Miranda's ambitions. She is ashamed of her family and tries to hide her origins from her classmates. In her spare time she likes to paint.
Patrick (Erik Stocklin) is a neighborhood boy and sells ice cream on his bike. He is secretly in love with Miranda and supports her wherever he can.

Keith ( Chaz Lamar Shepherd ) is the pastor of the local community and has been in a romantic relationship with Bethany at times.
Owen (Dylan Playfair) is a handsome church choir singer that Miranda has a crush on.
Kleigh (Lindsay Navarro) and April (Rachelle Gillis) are classmates of Emily.

Production and broadcast
Haters Back Off is set in Miranda's hometown of Tacoma , Washington State. The series was filmed from April to June 2016 in Port Coquitlam near Vancouver in southwest Canada.
The eight-episode first season was released worldwide on October 14, 2016 by the video streaming service Netflix. In addition to the English original, dubbed versions are available in German, French, Italian and Spanish.
The second season was released worldwide on October 20, 2017.
