Hauen is a locality in the East Frisian municipality Krummhörn in the district of Aurich in Lower Saxony . The place was first mentioned in 1585 as "Hauwinge". The name is interpreted as a combination of the nickname Haue or Hauwo with the collective suffix -ing . In 1848, Hauen had 99 inhabitants, spread over 19 residential buildings. Until the founding of the municipality of Krummhörn, Hauen was a district of the previously independent municipality of Greetsiel .
Directly at the place there is a state road that comes from the city north via Greetsiel, Hauen and Pilsum and leads to other roads to Emden or Pewsum . Until the closure in May 1963, there was a stopping point on the Emden – Pewsum – Greetsiel district railway near the village .
Hauen is on the edge of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park near the Leybucht . The Pilsum lighthouse is just under two kilometers to the west.
