Facade of the house Bergstrasse 64

The Hausbergstraße 64 is a residential building in the Belgian city of Eupen . The simple house in Berggässchen was built in the 18th century and has been a protected cultural monument since March 27, 1986 . On July 19, 2013, the decree of 1986 was changed so that the house with the surrounding buildings and rear buildings, the buildings at the beginning of Neustraße and house facades on Straße Am Berg were included in a “protected area”.

The building still serves as a residential building today.

location

The house with its listed east facade is located on a very narrow part of the former course of the Bergstrasse, which is now signposted as Berggässchen . Until 1860 it was the only road between the upper and lower town. Today the Bergstrasse leads past the west facade of the house.

The building from 1720 to the north has been a listed building since 2005.

description

The two-story house was built from blue and quarry stone . The painted facade has three symmetrical and harmonious axes. The small rectangular windows are coupled in pairs, their shutters have been removed. The wall anchors made of finely worked wrought iron are painted in the same color as the facade. The bluestone sills and lintels run as ribbons across the entire facade. The entrance shows a straight lintel over chamfered posts that rest on plinths. The door leaf is from the beginning of the 19th century. Above the lintel is an elegant ox eye under a shell niche with wrought iron decoration. The figure of the saint has been removed. A year is plastered and illegible. The coffered ceilings inside the house date from the 18th century and are well preserved.

The gable roof, which is also listed, is covered with interlocking tiles. The cemented west facade to the new, lower lying Bergstrasse shows three floors with a further entrance door. Its structure and the window openings were redesigned in the style of the 20th century.
