The house was also known as the horseshoe house because of its V-shaped floor plan.

The former building at Kaiserstraße 27 in Heilbronn was built in 1893 by the Heilbronner Gewerbebank according to plans by Christian Zillhardt. The building, also known as the horseshoe house, because of its V-shaped floor plan, which is unique in Heilbronn , came into the private possession of the Jewish merchant and art dealer Seligmann Abraham in 1902, who set up a well-known picture gallery there. All buildings on Kaiserstrasse , like the rest of the Heilbronn city center, were destroyed in the air raid on December 4, 1944 .

history

Seligmann Abraham (born March 28, 1862 in Massenbach), who called himself Sigmund Aram, lived with his family on three floors in the so-called horseshoe house . His private picture gallery contained contemporary pictures by painters from Württemberg and Baden. Paintings by Ernst Otto Reiniger , Hermann Pleuer and Gustav Schönleber hung in the reception room . Still lifes by the Unterland painter Strich-Chapell could be seen in the dining room. The painting collection was enriched with images from Paris, including a Paris street view by Utrillo and a painting by Eugène Boudin . The collection also included some paintings by Adolph Amberg , who worked in the Bruckmann studio . A painting of a Black Forest landscape by Hans Thoma hung in the living room . Sigmund Aram had also acquired abstract works by Willi Baumeister and Oskar Schlemmer , whose paintings were hanging in the library. The son Siegfried Aram (born May 28, 1891 in Heilbronn) had emigrated to the USA, where he was mostly active in art circles, in the art trade and in art history in Detroit and New York.

Because of its striking urban location, the house can often be seen on old postcards and photographs.

In 1950, the business and residential building of the EW Kachel company was opened at the same location according to plans by the architects Richard Scheffler and Herbert Alber . The four-storey building with two basement floors and an extended attic was built as a reinforced concrete structure in the form of a column- free, freely spanned construction with steel trusses . The facade was given " a timeless, bourgeois solid face " that corresponded to the zeitgeist of the time.

Until 2008 there was a household goods store in the post-war building. Then the building was rebuilt. Today the Vapiano fast-food restaurant is located in the building .
