History and architecture

The Lohe House (also called Lohe Castle) was first mentioned in a document in 1281. It originally belonged to the Cäcilienkloster in Cologne. The knight Heinrich Wulf von Lüdinghausen bought it in 1350. It remained in the family's possession until around 1700 and then fell to the von Wrede family through marriage . The Erbsälzerfamilie von Papen bought the property in 1738. The noble residence in its present form in 1855 and 1885 by the Cologne Domwerkmeister the Cologne cathedral workshop , Vinzenz Statz from Cologne, expanded. A chapel and tower were added to the baroque part . The renovation resulted in a three-winged building in the neo-Gothic style , with a total area of around 700 m². The ducal Nassau garden director Thelemann from Biebrich set up the romantic park. In the time after it was built, the castle-like mansion was considered the youngest and most beautiful moated castle. Haus Lohe is today with the former administrator's house and the economic buildings in the middle of a park-like area with ponds, moats and a lush tree population. It is privately owned today. Numerous apartments were created. Some companies and artists are located in outbuildings.

About one kilometer away is the listed Lohmühle , which used to belong to the castle.
