history

Middle Ages and Early Modern Times

The Lords of Horne (Horn) had been feudal people on Gut Marck since 1198. In 1368 the von Horne family bought the property to build a house.

The simple, one-story buildings date from the 14th century. In 1537 Gertrud von Horne, Claus von Horne's heir, married the mercenary leader Georg von Holle . He expanded the facility and built the manor house. Its current form is mainly based on renovations from 1754.

In the early modern period , Gut Marck was the largest state estate in the county of Tecklenburg .

House Marck played an important role in the Peace of Westphalia . Preliminary negotiations took place here in 1643 before the peace treaties that ended the Thirty Years 'War in Germany and at the same time the Eighty Years' War of Independence in the Netherlands were concluded in Münster and Osnabrück on October 24, 1648 .

19th and 20th centuries

The property has been in the possession of the Barons von Diepenbroick-Grüter since 1804, and they still live there today.

Since 1998, the registry office of the city of Tecklenburg has offered wedding ceremonies in the historic district administration room as an alternative to the registry office in the town hall. A cultural program with palace concerts and readings is also on offer.
