Architectural monument

The Podhorskyj house ( Ukrainian Будинок Підгорського ), also called the baron's castle ( Замок барона ) or the baron's house ( Дом Барона ), is a listed building in the city of Shevchenko in the Ukrainian capital Kiev .

The building, built between 1896 and 1898 on Yaroslaviv Wal Street ( Вулиця Ярославів Вал ) number 1 near the Golden Gate by Kiev architect Mykola Dobachevskyj , was built as a tenement house for the landlord Michael Podgorskyj, from whom the house owes its name.

The house, which with its spire on the bay window is reminiscent of a fairytale castle, contains elements of both Gothic and Renaissance as well as signs of Romanesque Art Nouveau . In the building in need of renovation today, with an area of almost 1500 m² that has been an architectural monument since 1990, there is now a gallery on the ground floor.
