House Rhade

Haus Rhade is a manor house in Kierspe ( Märkischer Kreis ). The origins go back to before the year 1003.

history

A resting place (29 artefacts) from the Mesolithic was found at Haus Rhade. A previous building stood on the linden hill. House Rhade was first mentioned in 1003 at this point. The property later belonged to the Counts of the Mark . Count Adolf II of Kleve-Mark pledged the house and the property belonging to it to Hermann Overlacker around 1400. It was later pledged again to Deutz Abbey in 1534 . The Elector Georg Wilhelm von Brandenburg, as heir of the Brandenburg possessions, had the Rhade house sold to the von Heiden family in 1617 . But this rarely lived there, so that it deteriorated more and more. In 1725 it was sold along with the associated justice . It was owned by the von Holtzbrinck family until 1910. After 1911, the Düsseldorf factory owner Johann Gottlieb Schwietzke bought the property and carried out several modifications. His descendants still live in Haus Rhade today.

A large rectangular corner tower is the oldest part of the house. In 1920 the mansion was renovated. The tower was raised by one floor and this got a curved dome with a lantern.
