House to the sea port
The Haus zum Meerhafen (also called Flaig-Haus ) is a listed building in Rheinfelden in the canton of Aargau . It is located in the north of the old town on Marktgasse (corner Brodlaube), near the town hall . The post-Gothic building from the late 17th century is classified as a cultural asset of regional importance .
history
The building was built over two previous buildings of unknown age, the roof construction dates from 1696/97. Before 1749, Schultheiss Franz Joseph Brutschin had the small corner room on the second floor decorated with stucco work . From 1847 there were two apartments and a shop. The apartments on the upper floors were given separate access in 1866 through the addition of a staircase. A new facade decoration brought about an increase in value in 1872. In 1977/78 an exterior renovation took place, whereby the ground floor masonry was partially exposed; three walled-in arched openings came to light.
Building
A special feature of the four-story house, which is covered with a gable roof , is a polygonal bay window on the first floor. The only existing bay in Rheinfelden consists of a goblet-shaped console made of red sandstone with a wide cornice and a base above it. A richly profiled cornice above the four bay windows has a helmet made of copper sheet. All parts of the building are painted brick red. All upper floors have continuous sill cornices .
The corner room on the first floor has a paneled parquet and a simple stucco-framed ceiling from the late 19th century with a stretched quatrefoil. A Régence stucco ceiling from around 1730/40 has been preserved in the corner room on the second floor .
