history

In the middle of the 14th century there was a two-storey stone house at this point, which was increased by one storey in the early 16th century. At the same time, a walled spiral staircase and the three-story north wing were built. In the 17th century the Speiserhaus was owned by the Eggs family. From 1699 the administration of the Upper Austrian Breisgau Office used a room for audiences and in 1714 rented two additional rooms. In this context, the creation of the representative portal at the main guard place may be. Major repairs and alterations, during which the building took on its current appearance, took place in 1740 and in the 1760s. From 1892 to 1895 the facade was renovated and the interior was modernized. Between 1986 and 1989 the building was rebuilt and extensively renovated.

Building

The core building from the 14th century is largely covered by a modern annex building on Kapuzinergasse, while the simple baroque front of the north wing faces the main guard square. The facade of the square has six axes , with the ground floor windows being unusually high. Rectangular stone-framed windows with late Classicist cast cement crowns and angular wooden cornices decorate the mezzanine and the first floor. The only eye-catcher on the façade of the square is the baroque portal made of gray-colored sandstone with a double-leaf door on the second axis from the east . A crown with a skylight sits like an aedicule on the framework of the rectangular doorway . Capitals on the flat stepped walls emphasize the approach of the basket arch.

What is remarkable about the long north wing is the two-story basement. A flat-roofed cellar occupies the half-recessed floor below the mezzanine floor, while a room with barrel vaults partially carved into the rock extends on the second basement , the slightly widened western part of which is closed off by a cross vault .
