House Church of the Holy Cross

The Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross is a house church in the Francke Foundations in Halle (Saale) and the only Russian Orthodox church in Saxony-Anhalt . It was built in 2000 in a vaulted cellar of House 24 of the foundations under the direction of the architect Wilfried Ziegemeier . It was also consecrated in 2000 by Archbishop Feofan from Berlin. The walls are painted in the tradition of Orthodox art with icons of the righteous and saints and scenes from biblical history. The Moscow icon painter couple Marina Sinanjan and Vladimir Stscherbinin designed them in elaborate fresco paintings . The iconostasis was created based on a design by Halle's master craftsman Eberhard Kull with icons painted by a Weimar Russian Orthodox priest.
