Erythema in Lyme disease

Erythema ( erythema , from ancient Greek ἐρύθημα erýthēma 'redness', 'inflammation') is a dermatological term for skin reddening (formerly also called redness ) caused by increased blood flow due to vasodilation , occasionally due to the side effects of drugs such as e.g. B. ACE inhibitors .

Occur

The erythema can appear in different sizes, color intensities, boundaries and dynamics. It can be a symptom of various infectious diseases and skin diseases , but it can also occur under normal circumstances (for example flushing: erythema pudoris, "affect erythema", see flushing ). In contrast to skin bleeding , an erythema can be temporarily discolored by applying pressure.

Redness that affects over 90% of the body surface is known as erythroderma .
