Haverhill is a civil parish in the southern portion of Green Township , Scioto County , Ohio , United States . Although Haverhill is a parish, it has a post office at 45636.

The area is located directly on the Ohio River , the southern border of the state named after him, between the community of Hanging Rock in Lawrence County and Franklin Furnace , also in Scioto County.

Industry

The biggest employer here is the Haverhill Chemicals coal tar refinery . In 2001 the Sunoco oil company took over it from Aristech Chemical Corporation . In 2011, Sunoco sold the Haverhill plant to Goradia Capital , which resold it to ALTIVIA in 2015 . It mainly produces the basic materials phenol , acetone , α-methylstyrene and bisphenol A for the chemical industry .

Sunoco emerged from the Sun Oil Company of Ohio , founded in 1890 . The location on the river and close to the parallel highways and railway lines makes it easier to transport the products.

In 2005 the Kokosing Construction Company built a new coking plant with a coke battery of 100 ovens for SunCoke Energy in Haverhill . In the second construction phase, another 100 coke ovens were built. Since 2008 these have been generating a total of 550,000 tons of coke per year, energy for the steam turbines to generate electricity and at the same time the coke oven gases for the white side of the plant.
