The old town of Haworth

Haworth is a town in West Yorkshire in England in the Pennines region .

Haworth was the residence of the Brontë siblings : Charlotte Brontë , Branwell Brontë , Emily Brontë and Anne Brontë . The three sisters had published novels and a volume of poetry under male pseudonyms in the mid-19th century, while their brother Branwell was mainly active as a painter. Her father Patrick Brontë (1777-1861) was over forty years vicar of the local church .

In the old town of Haworth, in the former rectory opposite the church of St. Michael and All Angels, you will find the Brontë Parsonage Museum, a small museum in memory of the Brontë siblings .

Haworth is also a popular holiday destination for hiking tourists. The surrounding moors of the lower Yorkshire Dales are ideal for long walks in the open, unspoiled nature.

Haworth's historic train station

Emily Brontë used the surrounding landscape as the backdrop for her only novel Wuthering Heights (1848). Striking landscape points such as the Penistone Crags, Penistone Hill and the fairy cave at Ponden Kirk can be found in the book. Top Withins, the highest hill in the vicinity, is assumed to be the geographical model for the location of the Wuthering Heights estate, a corresponding notice board is on the ruins of a former farmhouse on the hill.

Another tourist attraction is Haworth's historic train station, part of the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway , an original steam train line that is still in operation today.
