Haworthia chloracantha is a species of the genus Haworthia in the subfamily of the Affodill family (Asphodeloideae).

description

Haworthia chloracantha grows sprouting. The 18 to 25 upright, firm to rough leaves form a rosette with a diameter of 2.5 to 4 centimeters. The light green leaf blade is 0.5 to 1.5 inches long. The leaf surface is patterned like a network. The leaf margins and the keel are covered with translucent thorns up to 0.3 millimeters in length.

The loose inflorescence reaches a length of up to 25 centimeters and consists of small flowers.

Systematics and distribution

Haworthia chloracantha is widespread in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

The first description by Adrian Hardy Haworth was published in 1821. A nomenclatory synonym is Aloe chloracantha Roem. & School f. (1829).

A distinction is made between the following varieties :

  • Haworthia chloracantha var. Chloracantha
  • Haworthia chloracantha var. Denticulifera (Poelln.) MBBayer
  • Haworthia chloracantha var. Subglauca Poelln.
