Wolf Spider ( tight. " Wolf spider ") is a Polish thrash metal band from Posen who in 1985 under the name Wilczy Pająk was established, disbanded again in 1991 and in 2011 got together again.

history

The band was founded in 1985 and consisted of singer Leszek Szpigiel, guitarists Piotr Mańkowski and Maciej Matuszak, bassist Mariusz Przybylski and drummer Tomasz Goehs. In the first three years of its existence, Wolf Spider still had its Polish name, Wilczy Pająk. In 1987 the band finished work on their debut album Wilczy Pająk , which was released in 1989 through Klub Płytowy Razem . In 1988 a second album called Barwy Zła was recorded, but it was never released. In 1989 Leszek Szpigiel left the band and was replaced by Tomasz Zwierzchowski. In this line-up, the band took the English version of Barwy Zła called Hue of Evil , which was only released in 1991 via Polskie Nagrania Muza . Shortly after the recordings, Mariusz Przybylski left the band. Then Maciej Matuszak switched to the electric bass and Dariusz "Popcorn" Popowicz joined the line-up as the new second guitarist. Shortly afterwards, singer Jacek Piotrowski joined the band and replaced Zwierzchowski. With this line-up, the band recorded their next two albums, Kingdom of Paranoia (1990) and Drifting In the Sullen Sea (1991), and released them through Under One Flag . From 1986 to 1990 the band took part in Metalmania . In addition to appearing at several other festivals, the band also played in countries such as Czechoslovakia and Hungary . In 1991 the band played their last concert for the time being, where they acted as the opening act for Deep Purple .

In March 2011 the group got together again, so that in August a permanent line-up was established with singer Jacek Piotrowski, guitarists Piotr Mańkowski and Maciej Matuszak, bassist Mariusz Przybylski and drummer Beata Polak. The group gave their first concert in February 2012 in a club in Poznan.

style

The band played Thrash Metal at the beginning, the sound of which is reminiscent of that from the San Francisco Bay Area . The music shows influences from the hardcore area. The music can be compared to early works by Metallica and Megadeth , but here and there sound parallels to classic heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden and Metal Church can be heard. From the second album on the music got a strong progressive character and is compared to atheist .
