Haydar is a Turkish male given name of Arabic origin ( Arabic حيدر/ Haidar ) with the meaning " lion ", which also occurs as a family name . Haydar is the Turkish spelling of Laqab or the Ism of Ali . For this reason Haydar is disproportionately represented among Alevis and is often combined with the first name Ali to Ali Haydar.
