The HeartChoir is a German gospel choir that was founded in 2004 in Wetter an der Ruhr . Performing with changing line-ups, the choir currently has 30 members between the ages of 18 and 30, the majority of whom were already part of the initial formation. The four-piece HeartChoir band is also an integral part . In its repertoire, the choir combines modern gospel with pop , rhythm and blues , Latin and other styles.

history

founding

In September 2004 the youth project HeartChoir was started by Alina Möllmann and Julia Barbig at the Kulturzentrum Lichtburg in Wetter an der Ruhr. The choir project was initially scheduled for six months and ended with a performance. The choir was accompanied by the funk & soul band Ashtray. After the first concert, everyone involved spoke out in favor of continuing the HeartChoir. In the spring of 2005, the choir received further support and the HeartChoir band was formed at the same time. On June 17th, 2005, the HeartChoir gave its first concert in Witten with the new line-up, which since then has largely corresponded to today's formation. This was followed by further appearances and at the end of December 2005 the first gospel gala, which was presented to around 1,000 spectators over two days. Since then, the HeartChoir Gospel Gala at the end of the year has been an integral part of the choir's program and one of the few occasions on which it can be experienced without other acts and in full concert length.

Appearances and stage presence

In many small and large events, the choir has established a permanent place in the local music scene. The HeartChoir Gospel Galas, appearances at the Gospel Church Days 2006 in Düsseldorf and 2008 in Hanover , at the Park Festival 2005 and at the presentation of the Youth Culture Prize North Rhine-Westphalia 2006 in Bochum's Jahrhunderthalle are among the larger performances . Later, the choir had fewer appearances, especially to record the album Unconditional in a creative break .

The choir is characterized by very individual voices, good soloists in all voices and a professional band. The special character, a unique temperament and the fun of the choir's performances are emphasized from many sides. In circles of the choir, this charisma is often based on musical aspects as well as a unique bond within the formation. Many commentaries speak of the “choir of hearts”. The artists were given the opportunity to put their skills to the test with Chancellor Angela Merkel and were invited to the CDU parliamentary group's Christmas party in Berlin in December 2009.

Albums

In autumn 2007 the choir recorded its debut album Unconditional in the Straton-Studio Wuppertal and in the rooms of the music school Gevelsberg , which was released in December 2007. In 2008 the second edition was reproduced, on which three new tracks were added, including live recordings. The second album You can't stop the beat was released in December 2009.

Grand Prix of Choirs 2008

The stage presence of the choir was also recognized in Cologne in August 2008 at the ZDF television show Grand Prix of Choirs . Around three million viewers voted the HeartChoir by TED with 40.7 percent as the best choir in Germany and thus also confirmed the jury's rating. The vote was celebrated by the public and the press, and the members were welcomed by several thousand people in their hometown after their return.

TV appearances

After the success at the ZDF Grand Prix of Choirs in 2008, two more TV appearances followed: Shortly after the Grand Prix victory, the Choir of Hearts was allowed to present the winning song Reach Out in the ZDF TV garden . In 2011, the young artists were not only the supplier of the title song Oh happy day for the RTL TV commercial on the occasion of the 33rd Evangelical Church Congress in Dresden, but were also allowed to present it as actors in a staged flash mob.
