Hedde is the name of a family from Dithmarschen .

history

There is evidence that members of the Hedde family lived in Dithmarschen from the first half of the 16th century. From 1659, five successive generations provided parish bailiffs from Albersdorf . A document from 1559 names a Johan Hedde, who owned a water mill near Schafstedt . He is the progenitor of all people who lived or died there to this day. Many members of the family took up agricultural professions, and many others worked as academics, especially lawyers. Branches of the family settled in the Duchy of Holstein, Hamburg, Copenhagen and the USA.

The first of the Albersdorf parish bailiffs named Jacob Hedde (1600–1684) was a grandson of the water mill operator. He worked as a househusband in Schafstedt and received in February 1659 the appointment of Vogt of the parish. His children and grandchildren took over the bailiwick, including Johann (1693–1776). The older son Peter Bendix (1726–1796) succeeded his father in office. The younger son Jacob Friedrich (1743–1796) worked after studying theology as a pastor of Wesselburen and the father of a branch of the family that was now flourishing.

The last parish bailiff of Albersdorf, who came from the Hedde family, was Peter Bendix's only son, Johann (1766–1809). He attended, at least for a short time, the University of Kiel and was therefore one of the first parish bailiffs with legal training. He married Anna Christiane Japsen (1769 – around 1855), who had inherited the Wasmerhof in Friedrichsgabekoog . The couple had the son Peter Jacob Hedde .

Peter Jacob Hedde married Helena Sophia, née van der Smissen (1798–1858), who came from a wealthy family in Altona . The couple had three sons:

  • The eldest son Johann (1826-1915) initially worked as a parish bailiff in Hennstedt , from 1868 as a judge in Nortorf . In 1874 he moved to Altona as a district judge.
  • The middle son Heinrich Peter (1836–1914) initially lived in Heide and later in Marne and worked as a lawyer and notary, leaving no male descendants. He married the pastor's daughter Agnes Delfs (1832-1912). The couple had three sons, two of whom worked as lawyers: Peter (1861–1929) worked as a district court director in Hamburg and died unmarried. The son Richard (1870–1973) completed a commercial training in Hamburg. He then studied agriculture in Kiel and Berlin. He worked as general secretary of the Kiel Chamber of Agriculture until 1932 and died unmarried. The son Adolph (1873-1946) went through a legal traineeship and then worked as a lawyer on estates in Mecklenburg.

The aforementioned pastor Jacob Friedrich Hedde (1743–1796) married Catharina Dorothea Claussen (1743–1802) from Wesselburen. The couple had nine children, four of whom died before adulthood. This included Nicolaus Albertus (1786–1841), who entered the Danish service as an officer and had two sons:

  • Friedrich Hedde worked as a lawyer in Kiel, gained political importance during the Schleswig-Holstein uprising and emigrated to the USA. Here he had success as a businessman and died childless.
  • Johannes Heinrich Nicolaus (1821–1899) worked as a lawyer in Segeberg . He married Marie Louise Langenheim (1822-1893). The couple had four children, of whom the two daughters had no children.
    • The son Friedrich (1857–1929) designed many bridges as the Berlin city councilor.
    • The son Johannes Nicolaus Albertus (1861–1915) moved to Rödelheim . His son Ernst-Erich Friedrich (1907–1978) went back to Dithmarschen and worked in Meldorf as a lawyer and notary.
