Richard DeMorra travels to Hawaii to attend the funeral of his father Joseph Rose. He gave everyone in whose debt he was indebted a poker chip (in the English original the title-giving “marker”) that he could redeem if he needed help himself. Against the wishes of his father's widow, Kimba, and with the support of the local Danny, he stays in Hawaii and makes it his mission to provide help to those who were once given a chip by his father.

In Germany, the series ran for the first time from October 1995 on VOX and was repeated there several times until 1999. It has not yet been released on DVD or Blu-Ray.
