Joe Viterelli

Joe "Johnny" Viterelli (born March 10, 1937 in the Bronx , New York City , † January 28, 2004 in Las Vegas , Nevada ) was an American actor of Italian descent.

Life

Viterelli first worked as a businessman in New York and from the 1970s in Los Angeles , where he met the director Leo Penn , the father of Hollywood actor Sean Penn . Leo Penn was done by striking Viterellis exterior and its rough, husky voice and persuaded him in 1990 to screen test for the film In the forecourt to hell (Engl. State of Grace ), in which Viterelli prompt a major role as a mobster received.

In the next few years, numerous similar roles followed, including in Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway , Mickey Blue Eyes , Eraser , Die Firma and Reine Nervensache . Viterelli was also seen in American television productions such as In the Network of the Syndicate or Fallen Angels in the 1990s . He had his last appearance in early 2004 in a commercial for the American retail group Staples , in which he was seen in his frequently played role as a mafia gangster.

Joe Viterelli died on January 28, 2004 in Las Vegas after heart surgery of a gastric bleeding and was buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City , California . He left behind his wife Catherine and five children together, including the film composer Joseph Vitarelli .
