Heide Berndt
Heide Berndt (born December 2, 1938 in Aachen ; † February 23, 2003 in Berlin ) was a German urban sociologist and social medicine specialist .
Life and work
Heide Berndt spent her childhood in Posen and her youth in Frankfurt am Main . From 1959 to 1966 she studied sociology with Theodor W. Adorno at Frankfurt University , interrupted by two semesters at the Free University of Berlin . As a qualified sociologist, she worked for Alexander Mitscherlich from 1966 to 1974 as a research assistant for urban and architectural sociology at the Sigmund Freud Institute . After two years of freelance work, she was appointed as a university professor at the Alice Salomon University in Berlin in 1979, specializing in social medicine . She died shortly before her retirement in 2003.
In an obituary it says: “In theory, she saw herself as an 'Adornidin'”. As a student, she joined the Socialist German Student Union (SDS) and the Argument -Klub (Berlin). As a university lecturer, she was involved in several initiatives and projects to support mentally ill and psychiatric patients.
She worked on an extensive work on the 1968 revolt , which she wanted to complete after her retirement.
