Heidemarie Salevsky

Heidemarie Salevsky (born August 20, 1944 in Bad Liebenwerda ) is a German interpreter , translator , author and professor of translation studies .

Live and act

Salevsky is the daughter of the financial economist Willi Racheus and Käthe Racheus, b. No. After graduating from high school in Berlin , she studied from 1962 at the Humboldt University in Berlin at the institutes for Slavic Studies, English / American Studies, Communication Studies and Philosophy. She completed a one-year partial course at the State Foreign Language Institute "Maurice Thorez" in Moscow . In 1966 she finished her studies with an exam as a qualified interpreter and qualified translator for Russian and English at the Humboldt University in Berlin. This was followed by two semesters of postgraduate studies at the interpreting institute of the University of Leipzig with the examination as a certified conference interpreter (Russian-German and German-Russian).

After working as an interpreter, translator and editor, she took on a permanent position at Humboldt University. In 1983 Salevsky received his doctorate on the subject of general and special problems of simultaneous interpreting as a specific type of speaking activity ( dissertation for doctorate B ). In the same year she was awarded the academic degree Dr. sc. phil. for translation studies and from 1984 she was a full lecturer in the field of translation studies at the Humboldt University. From 1990 to 1996 she was head of the Department of Translation Studies at the Institute for Slavic Studies

Salevsky was appointed C3 professor for translation studies , applied linguistics and specialist communication in Russian at the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences in 1996 and worked there until she retired in 2009. From 2010 to 2011 she was professor for theoretical and applied translation studies at the Okan University in Istanbul . She was also visiting professor at the University of Heidelberg (1991/92), the University of Innsbruck (1993), the State University of New York at Binghamton (1994) and the University of Vienna (1994/95).

Salevsky has lived in Berlin since 1955, is married and has a daughter.

• Translation processes as complex, dynamic systems of action, taking into account the interrelationships between the various influencing factors and the temporal and local framework of conditions
• Inter- and transdisciplinary studies of simultaneous interpreting and Bible translation.
• General translation theory with a system of terms and definitions
• Methodological and methodological problems in translatology
