Heidenhofen is a village and today the smallest district of the large district town of Donaueschingen in the Black Forest-Baar district in Baden-Württemberg . The place has about 250 inhabitants.

geography

Heidenhofen is 47 ° 59 'north latitude and 8 ° 34' east longitude at an average altitude of 742 m above sea level . The total size of the district is 267 hectares, 185 hectares of which are fields, 23 hectares of meadows, 25 hectares of forest, 33 hectares are occupied by settlement areas and traffic routes and 1 hectare is other areas. The geological foundation of the place forms the Arietenkalk , which belongs to the Black Jura . Since the neighboring town of Aasen to the west is still on the softer Keuper , the change in the rock subsoil can easily be read with the naked eye between the two towns on the basis of a sharp edge of the terrain, which was created over the course of millions of years by erosion .

history

Early middle ages

Heidenhofen was first mentioned in 759/60 in a document from the St. Gallen monastery ; Together with Biesingen, it is the oldest documented place in the Schwarzwald-Baar district. Originally, Heidenhofen was the eponymous suburb of an Urmark , to whose area the places Aasen and Biesingen belonged.

The heath Hofener Hilariuskirche was one of the Urkirchen of Baar and was already on April 28, 857 in a diploma king of the German Ludwig mentioned.

The St. Joseph Brotherhood "for a good death"

The St. Joseph Brotherhood "for a good death" was founded in 1694 at the instigation of Pastor Michael Greysing.

Incorporation

On April 1, 1972 Heidenhofen was incorporated into the city of Donaueschingen.

Place name

The name Heidenhofen has been interpreted by previous research in the sense of 'settlement at the court of Haido'.

coat of arms

The green coat of arms with a golden bar is based on the coat of arms of the Lords of Sunthausen, to whom Heidenhofen belonged until 1477. In this year the Sunthausener sold the place to the Fürstenbergs. The affiliation of Heidenhofen to the Principality of Fürstenberg is symbolized by the blue-silver cloud- shield edge.
