Heidi Benneckenstein (* 1992 in Fürstenfeldbruck as Heidrun Redeker ) is a German former right-wing extremist and bestselling author .

Life

Heidi Benneckenstein grew up in a village near Munich in a family that had a solid national socialist view of the world. She became a member of militant youth groups, the home loyal German youth (HDJ) and comradeships . Benneckenstein experienced a lot of drills, punches, and rewards for conforming behavior. At the age of 15 she moved to Passau and made contact with the NPD community . In Jena, she also met Ralf Wohlleben , a neo-Nazi from the NSU right- wing terrorist circle . Benneckenstein became pregnant at the age of 17 and her boyfriend Felix and they wondered whether their child should be raised in a folk way. She and her husband, former comradeship activist Felix Benneckenstein, stepped out of the right-wing scene in 2011 and Benneckenstein broke up with her family at the age of 19.

Benneckenstein wrote with A German Girl. My life in a neo-Nazi family is an autobiography about her youth in the right-wing scene.

The book was on Spiegel's bestseller list for non-fiction books for several weeks . It reached its top position with 8th place.

Reception of her book

Xaver von Cranach wrote in Spiegel about her experience report : “Benneckenstein's book is a portrait of a woman who dropped out . It shows how authoritarian upbringing and racial ideology turned a young girl into a staunch National Socialist. ”According to Karin Truscheit from the FAZ, the author describes“ the everyday life of neo-Nazis and how she herself managed to leave the scene ”.
