Heike Lorenz

Heike Lorenz (born June 8, 1961 in Magdeburg ) is a German politician ( SED , PDS , Die Linke ). 1998 to 2000 member of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state parliament ; 2000–2006 Ombudsman for the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

Life and work

In 1986 she was district chairman of the pioneer organization Ernst Thälmann . After studying at a technical college and continuing her studies at the HU Berlin, graduated as a qualified pedagogue. From 1990 to 1998 she worked in the youth welfare office in a district. From 1998 to 2000 she was a member of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state parliament. From 2000 to 2006 she was the Ombudsman for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. She completed a law degree, which she started in 2007, with the first state examination in 2012, passed the second state examination in 2014 and has been working as a lawyer ever since.

She is married and has two kids.

In the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 1998 , Heike Lorenz was elected to the state parliament via the PDS state list. With her election as ombudsman on November 30, 2000, she resigned her state parliament mandate. Karsten Neumann became a successor in the state parliament .

There was heated political controversy about her election as ombudsman in 2000 (as the successor to Frieder Jelen (CDU)). In October 2000, during a ceremony marking the tenth anniversary of the Landtag, Heike Lorenz declared that a policy that rejected the legacy of the GDR would violate the dignity of the people who lived in the GDR. Not only the opposition CDU Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , but also parts of the SPD and the Evangelical Church criticized this. Heike Lorenz had been proposed for the office by the PDS.

With her administration, Heike Lorenz earned the respect of the previous critics. During her term of office, the number of petitions increased steadily from 1,282 in 2001 to 1,844 in 2006. She also set accents through her personal commitment to democracy and tolerance. a. 2001 as the first representative from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the initiative "Show your face", with the organization of a joint prayer for peace by Christians, Jews and Muslims in 2002 in response to September 11, 2001, with offers of intercultural education for schools and social institutions. Until a corresponding job was created in the Ministry of Social Affairs in 2003, Heike Lorenz represented the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the conference of the federal states' commissioners for foreigners.

She represented the country at the conferences of the disability commissioners of the federal states.

From 2001 to 2006 Heike Lorenz was a member of the European Ombudsman Institute based in Innsbruck.

In 2004 Heike Lorenz was a founding member of the working group of parliamentary elected ombudsmen in Germany.

After 6 years in office, Heike Lorenz did not run for election again. Her successor was Bernd Schubert .

In the successor party, Die Linke, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Association, she participated in the statutes conference in Güstrow in 2010.
