Frieder Jelen

Frieder Jelen (born September 29, 1943 in Kittlitz ) is a German theologian , politician ( CDU ) and writer .

Life and work

After attending grammar school in Moritzburg and graduating from the University of Greifswald , Jelen studied theology at the Universities of Greifswald and Rostock from 1962 to 1967 . He passed both theological state exams, initially worked as an assistant at the Ecumenical Institute of the Evangelical Churches in Berlin and then became vicar and personal advisor to the Bishop of Greifswald. Later he got a job as a pastor in the St. Katharinen Church in Middelhagen on the island of Rügen .

Political party

Frieder Jelen is a member of the CDU. He was following the political turn of 18 March 1990 to October 2, 1990 member of the first freely elected GDR - People's Chamber . From 1990 to 1994 member of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . For a time he was state chairman of the Evangelical Working Group (EAK) of the CDU Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

Public offices

On April 20, 1993, Jelen was appointed Minister for the Environment to the government of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania led by Prime Minister Berndt Seite . After the formation of a coalition of CDU and SPD , he left the government on December 9, 1994. From 1995 to 2000 he was the ombudsman for the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. From 2000 to 2008 he was district administrator of the Demmin district and until September 30, 2008 deputy chairman of the administrative board of Sparkasse Neubrandenburg-Demmin .
