Renate Seydel (also Renate Seydelová ; * 1935 in Schenkendorf, Steinreich municipality , Brandenburg ) is a German specialist in German, editor , writer and bookseller.

She is best known as the editor of artist memoirs and biographies, for example about Asta Nielsen , Marlene Dietrich , Romy Schneider and their mother Magda Schneider, as well as anthologies about the Baltic islands of Hiddensee , Rügen and Usedom .

Life

Renate Seydel is the daughter of a teacher. In 1953 she passed the Abitur and then studied German at the Humboldt University in Berlin until 1957 . From 1959 she worked as an editor at Henschelverlag in Berlin, with a focus on film. In 1953 she came to the Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee for the first time, where her father built a summer house that was completed in 1962. Since then she has been spending the summer months on the island and has been running the Koralle bookstore in Vitte there since 1991 . In 1981 she published together with Allan Hagedorff the pictorial biography about Asta Nielsen; 1984 about Marlene Dietrich. The chronicle of her life in pictures and documents appeared in several editions. Three years later the illustrated biography about Romy Schneider appeared, the eighth edition of which came out in 2007. Ich, Romy - Diary of a Life about Romy Schneider was published by Renate Seydel in 1991 in the first edition. The diary appeared in several languages, including Dutch, French and Czech. In 1993 she published Charlotte von Stein and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - the story of a great love . Since the 1990s, Renate Seydel has mainly dealt with the Baltic Sea islands of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
