St. Katharinen Church (Middelhagen)
The St. Katharinen Church in Middelhagen ( Mönchgut municipality ) is a church building on the island of Rügen from 1455 .
history
The current church building was erected in 1455, at which time the monk's estate belonged to the Eldena monastery . However, parts of the church are probably older. The roof turret and the stair tower as well as the vault of the nave are from a later period. The church received the patronage of St. Catherine of Alexandria .
description
The tile-roofed hall church with choir and wooden church tower was built from field and brick.
The portal area is semicircular.
Furnishing
Since the baptismal font was revised in the 19th century, an exact date is difficult; possibly it comes from a no longer existing church in Reddevitz , in which it could have served as a holy water font. A gilded chalice embossed from silver dates from 1597.
The oak altar of Catherine was made around 1480, but probably only came into the church later. He probably comes from Stralsund and came to Middelhagen after the Thirty Years War. The pulpit was made in 1650, and the box stalls also date from the Baroque period.
The votive ship ("Perth") next to the altar , donated by pilots from Göhren, was made in 1842.
organ
The organ was made by Barnim Grüneberg in 1862 . Albert Schweitzer also played on it . The slider chest instrument has 7 registers on a manual and pedal . The actions are mechanical.
