Heike Petra Karbstein

Heike Petra Karbstein , b. Karbstein, until 2017 Schuchmann, (* 1965 in Bruchsal ) is a German engineer and professor of food - process engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology .

Life

Karbstein studied chemical engineering at the TH Karlsruhe from 1984 to 1989 , which she completed with a diploma thesis on "Theoretical and experimental determination of the limit dispersities during emulsification in colloid mills ". In the subsequent doctoral thesis until 1994, she worked on the topic of "Production and stability of oil-in-water emulsions ".

After her doctorate as Dr.-Ing. She spent two years until 1997 at BASF in Ludwigshafen as a development engineer in the central research department, before moving to Nestlé in Orbe in 1998 .

In 2000 she returned to the University of Karlsruhe, where she completed her habilitation in 2001 . During this time she received a grant from the DFG . She then worked at the Research Institute for Nutrition and Food in Karlsruhe until 2004, before finally following Helmar Schubert to the chair for food process engineering in April 2004 .

Main fields of activity

Karbstein works in the fields

  • Food processing, which includes various techniques for preservation and industrial processing.
  • Quality control. This includes various analysis methods and developments in measurement technology.
  • Optimization of the production process for specific foods.

Honors

In 1997 Heike Karbstein received the Arnold Eucken Prize from the Society for Process Engineering and Chemical Engineering in the VDI for fundamental work in the field of emulsification technology.
