Life
Heike Roesner is the daughter of a hotelier couple from Düsseldorf-Kaiserswerth. Her maternal grandfather, Johann Weyer, was a papermaker and owner of a paper mill in Einbrungen . After graduating from the Suitbertus Gymnasium in Düsseldorf-Kaiserswerth in 1977 , she attended an interpreting institute and completed her training in 1979 as an English translator. She worked as a foreign language secretary for an American auditing company in Düsseldorf until she studied art, music and French with the aim of teaching from 1980 to 1985 at the Duisburg University of Applied Sciences (now the University of Duisburg-Essen ). During this time she was already working artistically and showed her works in the first smaller exhibitions. From 1985 to 1988 she worked as a PR assistant in Düsseldorf and went on an art excursion to New York. In 1988 she moved to Berlin, where she founded an art and music project with other artists. In 1990 she had her first studio as a painter and worked as a singer and saxophonist in various Berlin bands. From 1992 to 1994 she helped set up a PR agency in Bonn- Bad Godesberg . In 1994 she returned to Berlin and ran the artist agency New Sister's Act together with a friend . From 1995 to 1999 she devoted herself primarily to music. She initiated a choir and a vocal quartet for improvisational singing and taught as a "lecturer for unusual singing" at the Wedding Music School. In 1997 she discovered the material paper for collages and the paper casket technique as a means of artistic design.
In 2000 she rented a studio in Prenzlauer Berg in Berlin. From 2001 to 2005 she ran a shop with a gallery and studio in Berlin-Schöneberg, the Roesnerei . In October 2005 she parted ways in order to be able to work freely in Berlin and in Kühlungsborn. From 2003 to 2010 she also worked as an assistant to the Estonian contemporary composer Arvo Pärt . Since 2011 she has been a member of the jury of the Federal Association for Crafts and Design. The artist has lived in Güstrow since the beginning of 2018.
Heike Roesner is a passionate collector of paper and , as she says, paints with this material. With old and new, used and unused, noble and banal, strange and everyday papers. Layer by layer, collage-like color surfaces are created . Her sculptures and objects are colored but still simple things that can be used or looked at and that sometimes tell a story .
