Heikki Liimatainen (born March 14, 1894 in Karstula , † December 24, 1980 in Porvoo ) was a Finnish athlete .

Heikki Liimatainen took part in the cross-country run at the Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920 and in Paris in 1924 . In 1920 he took 3rd place and won the bronze medal in the individual classification and gold in the team classification together with Paavo Nurmi and Teodor Koskenniemi . In 1924 he finished 12th in the individual competition and won gold in the team competition together with Paavo Nurmi and Ville Ritola .

The 1924 race, in which only 15 of 38 runners started, took place at extreme temperatures (unofficial sources indicate 45 ° C and more). It went down in sports history as the heat battle of Colombes. Thanks to the placements of Nurmi (1st) and Ritola (2nd), reaching the finish was enough for Liimatainen to repeat his team gold from 1920.
