Holy Cross Church

The Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche is a Catholic parish church in the Kreuzgrund settlement belonging to the Heilbronn district of Böckingen . The church, consecrated in 1991, replaced an older structure from the 1950s.

history

A first Holy Cross Church was designed as a branch church of the Böckinger Kilianskirche by the Heilbronn architect Rudolf Gabel, built from October 1953 and on July 18, 1954 by Vicar General Dr. Hagen inaugurated. Initially, the church interior was used as a kindergarten during the day, which is why the church was only given a special when it was consecrated . After the kindergarten moved into a neighboring property, the church was consecrated. Since 1980 the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche has been forming its own parish together with the St. John's Church in Frankenbach . The sacred building was demolished in 1992 in favor of a new parish hall. The church was rebuilt from 1990 onwards on a neighboring property according to the design by the architects Perlia, Schliebitz, Schwarz from Stuttgart and was inaugurated on December 8, 1991.

The building, consecrated in 1991, is defined by octagonal shapes. The interior already has an octagonal shape. The chancel designed as a tower choir is also framed in an octagonal manner, with a small octagonal tower being added to the octagonal choir tower with glass roof. The low, free-standing bell tower rests on eight metal pillars and is also octagonal in shape. Both in the choir tower and in the bell tower, the steel struts each form an eight-legged cross below the respective roof.

The church windows on the outer walls, mostly in white and blue tones, were designed by Michael Münzer and have an abstract design language with bands made of small circles reminiscent of punched strips. The horizontal ribbon of windows on the north side contrasts with the vertically arranged windows on the altar and one of the entrances. The glass roof of the choir tower is also artistically designed.

Like the tabernacle, the baptismal font and the ambo, the altar was made of basalt lava. Behind him there is a wall relief that shows a tree of life emerging from the cross. In addition to the organ, consecrated in 2002, the old altar cross, which was already in the previous building, is attached.

organ

The organ was built in 2002 by the Seifert (Kevelaer) Seifert organ building company. The instrument has 16 registers. The entire auxiliary plant is extracted from the main plant via alternating loops . The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
