Holy Cross Church

The Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche in Halle (Saale) is a Catholic parish church that was built from 1990 to 1991. It replaced the previous church built in the same place in 1965. The church was raised to a parish in 1966.

The planning of the church began at the end of the 1980s and thus falls into the era of the GDR , when new churches were hardly possible for political reasons. The church was built according to designs by Ralf Niebergall and Sigrid Schaller . The structure has a crystalline shape with a relatively low central interior, which is covered with a pent roof that is pulled down on both sides . The roof structure is open on the inside so that the rafters and roof beams are visible. Between two longitudinal girders of the roof there is a light alley over the entire length of the church. Under the planning requirements in the GDR, the church has an experimental status.

The Holy Cross Church has been a member of the Cross of Nails Community since 1988 .
