Saint Marron of Beit ( Maro, Maroun or Marun ; † 410 ) was a Christian hermit and Syrian Orthodox priest in the Orient. Probably a Suryoyo - Aramean , he was named after the Maronites .

Maron lived near the Orontes River near Cyrrhus in Syria . When he found a pagan temple, he dedicated himself fully to God and made the temple his oratory . Healing powers were ascribed to him, and he founded monasteries and trained monks in Lebanon and Syria. The name Maroniten, a church united with the Catholic Church , is derived from his name. His grave is between Hama and Homs , near a monastery. He is the patron saint of all Maronite Christians and of the village of Volperino near Foligno in Italy . Various eparchies are named after him, see Eparchy of St. Marron .

The name day of St. Marron is celebrated on February 9th. This is an official holiday in Lebanon. This day is also specially celebrated in the Maronite communities outside Lebanon.
