Filial church Hlgst. Trinity on the Taupltizalm

The Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity stands on the Tauplitzalm in the Bad Mitterndorf municipality in the Liezen district in Styria . It is a branch church of the Tauplitz parish church in the Tauplitz parish in the dean's office of Upper Ennstal - Styrian Salzkammergut in the Graz-Seckau diocese . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

Location and shape

South side

The Tauplitzalm church is located about 150 m east of the mountain station of the Tauplitz 2 chairlift on the southern edge of the Tauplitzalm plateau at an altitude of 1640  m above sea level. A.

It has the shape of a north-south facing tent. The steep clapboard roof begins over a low wall, the height of which is only about one meter on the north side and increases to the south due to the slope. The wall has three supports on both sides. From the northern gable with the access door, the roof ridge slopes down to the south, only to rise steeply just before the end, with a slight overhang over the south wall. This creates a kind of open tower with a bell hanging in it.

The roof structure is freely visible inside. The church has no side windows. It is illuminated through a three-part window in the top of the north gable and a large glass concrete window on the side of the altar. Next to the altar, a spiral staircase leads to the sacristy , which could be built under the altar area because of its location on the slope.

History and use

inner space

The church was built between 1961 and 1963 according to the design of the architect Kurt Weber-Mzell, who built other church buildings in Styria. The impressive glass window, the only ornament in the church, comes from the painter and graphic artist Alfred Wickenburg , who created it at the age of 78.

There are no regular services in the church, which is open to visitors every day. The exception to this is December 24th each year. Because of the occasional mountain masses, the church has neither a tabernacle , a baptismal font, nor an ambo . A covered stone block as an altar in front of the north side also allows outdoor services.
