The Celle medicinal plant garden is a park in Celle between Dammaschwiese and Wittinger Strasse . In one of "the largest medicinal plant gardens in Europe", medicinal plants grown on around 7,000 m² are explained between March and November by means of information boards or guided tours. But also scented , aromatic , poisonous and “ magic plants ” are presented. References to Sebastian Kneipp and Hildegard von Bingen are also shown.

On the site - as an offshoot of the Albrecht-Thaer-Schule Celle - is the technical school for rural tourism and direct marketing : Here products are offered as part of the training concept in the “Café KräuThaer” and the “KräuThaer Laden”.

history

After the organizational affiliation of the traditional rural women’s school to the Albrecht-Thaer School in Celle in 1974, the city was looking for " a site for a medicinal herb garden as part of the EXPO 2000 [...]." So the city of Celle created the building owner with the green space office on the Former "cottage garden" of the technical school, the medicinal plant garden with lawns, information pavilion and fountain.

At the same time, the "Café KräuThaer" and the "KräuThaer Laden" were created, the names of which are reminiscent of the agricultural scientist Albrecht Daniel Thaer , who was born in Celle and who had set up a first test farm in the nearby (today's) " Thaers Garten ".
