The Unterhaching Local History Museum is a museum in the Upper Bavarian municipality of Unterhaching . It is dedicated to the evidence of human existence in the Unterhaching community, which has existed there for over 4500 years.

history

The local history museum was founded in 1995 by Unterhachinger citizens when they formed the association “Unterhachinger Heimatmuseum eV”. At that time the association had eleven members. At first the museum was housed in the basement near the Unterhachingen train station ; the community of Unterhaching paid the rent. An intensive search (16 suggestions were available) found new rooms, a former cinema hall. After around two years of construction, the museum of local history was opened in its current design in November 2009 at Hauptstrasse No. 51.

exhibition

The focus of the collection is on the extensive archaeological finds from the copper and bronze to Roman times. Agricultural implements are not presented in the new museum, as these are exhibited in the local museums of the surrounding communities in Taufkirchen , Arget and Oberhaching .

The museum also shows farm objects, tools, a shoemaker's and a carpenter's workshop, a historic kitchen, small school equipment, equipment for winter sports, and traditional costumes. Above all, detailed information boards are on display. Unterhaching village life is shown on the display boards. There is a model of the Celtic village that shows life in the early days of Unterhaching, as well as a model of the village that reflects life in the time of Napoleon . The collection is constantly being expanded, including exhibits from the Late Bronze Age , the so-called Munich Urnfield Age . They are urns from a burial ground that was discovered in 1934 during the construction of the motorway (today's A8 ). Bronze objects from this era were added on permanent loan.

Special exhibitions

In the rooms of the museum there are often special exhibitions, such as for the anniversary of the local church or an exhibition about the politician Matthias Erzberger, the crib of the Church of St Korbinian. In addition, these special exhibitions can often be seen in the foyer of the town hall of Unterhaching. The museum takes part in events such as the Unterhachinger Reading Nights or in general meetings of the local Agenda 21 .

Support and funding

The museum is supported by its founder, the support association “Unterhachinger Heimatmuseum eV”. The community of Unterhaching also contributes funds to the maintenance of the facility. Visitors are not charged an entrance fee, but are asked to make a donation instead.
