The Homeland Security Brigade 64 was a non-active Homeland Security Brigade of the Army of the Bundeswehr . The headquarters were most recently Gau-Algesheim . The brigade was disbanded in 1982, disbanded in 1993 and was subordinate to Military District Command IV .

history

Lineup

The brigade was set up on April 1, 1982 to take Army Structure IV in Defense Area IV . At about the same time, the partially active "sister brigade " Homeland Security Brigade 54 was planned. The headquarters were initially in Nünschweiler , later Gau-Algesheim

As its name suggests, the inactive Homeland Security Brigade was one of the twelve Homeland Security Brigades and one of the six inactive Homeland Security Brigades of the Territorial Army . In the event of a defense , the brigade was able to grow to a target strength of around 2,800 soldiers through the reservists . The brigade was planned as a device unit . Their defense material was stored in depots at peace . Only in the event of a defense would the material have been made mobile .

The structure and equipment of the homeland security brigade was comparable to most of the other inactive homeland security brigades in the territorial army: the core consisted of two hunter battalions , one tank battalion and one field artillery battalion . However, the brigade “only” had outdated M 48s in the tank battalion and the two heavy companies of the infantry battalions. The hunter battalions had no armored personnel carriers . As with most homeland security brigades, the field artillery was equipped with towed field howitzers FH 105mm (L) . Due to the small number of independent companies and the relatively small number of personnel for a brigade, the homeland security brigade corresponded to a light fighter brigade in terms of structure and equipment .

The task of the homeland security brigade as part of the territorial army was, among other things, the defense of the rear army area , in particular the safeguarding of important infrastructure such as marching routes, traffic hubs and telecommunication facilities. Airborne troops , leaked or breached enemy had to be expected in the rear area .

resolution

After reunification and the end of the Cold War , the brigade was disbanded at around the same time as all of the other eleven homeland security brigades that were still in existence at the time, as part of the downsizing of the army on December 31, 1993.

Association badge

The Homeland Security Brigade did not have its own association badge due to its planning as a device unit.
