The Home Place , colloquially peacocks named 1889-1892 ,, Canton school place is a place on the edge of the old town of the city of Zurich .

location

Rämistrasse, Zeltweg, Hottingerstrasse, Kantonsschulstrasse and Heimstrasse meet at Heimplatz as an extension of Seilergraben and Hirschengraben . The square is connected to public transport via tram lines 3, 5, 8 and 9 as well as trolleybus line 31 , the stop is called Kunsthaus . Structurally, it is determined by the Kunsthaus in the southwest, the peacock complex with the theater in the southeast and the area of the old canton school in the northeast, on which the extension of the Kunsthaus stands.

history

There used to be a small gate in the entrenchments at the place of the Heimplatz , the Hottinger gate . After the demolition of the jumps was there at the foot of the district school a facility with gymnasium and the Wolfbach -Bassin at its center. The gymnasium and the traffic intersection in the southern area of the facility, which was named Heimplatz in 1892, were built later.

Surname

Monument to Ignaz Heim

The Heimplatz is named after Ignaz Heim , whose monument has stood there since 1883. The name Pfauen goes back to an earlier restaurant, but was still used in federal documents for concessions for tram lines until the 1930s. The name Kantonsschulplatz referred to the nearby Rämibühl canton school . In the early 1990s, then Mayor Josef Estermann suggested that the square be renamed Max Frisch- Platz , but this was rejected by the street naming commission because the existing name Heimplatz is already not used by many Zurich residents, not even by the Zurich Transport Authority , whose stop is marked with the Kunsthaus .
