Heiner Alwart

Heiner Alwart (* 1951 in Hamburg ) is a German legal scholar and author. He was a professor at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena .

Life

After graduating from high school, Alwart studied law and philosophy in Hamburg and Mainz. He was funded by the German National Academic Foundation. After the two legal state exams, he was 1981 on "Criminal worthy attempts" Dr. iur. PhD. In 1986 he completed his habilitation with the thesis "Law and Action" and acquired the venia legendi for the subjects of criminal law, criminal procedural law and legal philosophy. He worked at the University of Hamburg as an assistant to Eberhard Schmidhäuser , his doctoral supervisor. As part of a Heisenberg fellowship, he researched and taught at the University of Basel in 1990/91 .

He then worked as a public prosecutor and professor in Hamburg and also held professorial positions and teaching assignments at the Philipps University in Marburg , the Ruhr University Bochum and the Humboldt University in Berlin .

From 1996 to 2017 he taught criminal law and criminal procedure law as a university professor at the University of Jena. From October 2007 to September 2009 he was the dean of the law faculty. The 450-year university anniversary also fell during this period. He was also a member of the university's senate for several years.

Alwart is a member of the Economics and Ethics Committee in the Association for Social Policy .

In March 2013, Alwart was the honorary doctorate of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University ( Tbilisi State University awarded, Georgia). For many years he was involved in a German-Georgian criminal law project funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. In this context, the 1st German-Georgian Criminal Law Teachers' Conference was held in October 2011 and a commemorative publication was published. In October / November 2018 he taught as a DAAD short-term lecturer at the Law Faculty of the Hanoi Open University.

His main research interests today are in the field of philosophy and legal philosophy as well as criminal law.
