Heiner Zarnack (* 1951 / 1952 ) is a former German basketball coach and -funktionär. He was the coach of the BC Johanneum Hamburg in the 2nd basketball league and the club's  sports director in the basketball league .

career

Zarnack passed his Abitur in 1971 at the Johanneum grammar school in Hamburg . As a player, he rose to the 2nd basketball league in 1979 with the BC Johanneum team . While he worked full-time as a high school teacher for sports, Latin and geography, he was a coach at the BC Johanneum Hamburg for many years. In 1983 and 1995, Zarnack, who also wore wooden shoes during the games, led the team to promotion to the 2nd basketball league. In addition, he worked at the University of Hamburg  as a lecturer and course leader. According to his own statement in August 1996, Zarnack wanted to "help basketball in Hamburg to be as popular as in the USA". In 1997 BCJ won the championship in the 2nd division north under his leadership, but missed promotion to the basketball league in the relegation round . In February 1998 Zarnack resigned as a Hamburg coach. At that time, the team he was in charge of and had strengthened considerably before the season was in third place in the 2nd Bundesliga. He did not succeed in "conveying my ideas to the team," he justified his move. He became BCJ sports director, in this position he contributed to the first division promotion in 1999 and also helped shape the following Bundesliga period (1999 to 2001) for Hamburg. After relegation he was also sports director in the 2001/02 season.

After leaving school he became a self-employed consultant for "self-presentation in exam situations" and rhetoric. He remained connected to basketball as a regular spectator of the Hamburg Towers  .
