Heinrich (Joinville)

Heinrich von Joinville ( fr. Henri de Joinville ) (* 1327 ; † 1365 ) was Lord of Joinville and as Heinrich V, Count of Vaudémont .

His father was Marshal Anseau de Joinville , from whom he inherited the rule of Joinville in 1343. His mother was Margaret of Vaudémont. Since his maternal uncle, Count Heinrich IV. , Had died in 1346 without an heir, he could in 1348 after the death of his maternal grandfather, Count Heinrich III. who have taken over the County of Vaudémont.

Heinrich took an active part in the fighting of the Hundred Years War on the French side and was captured by the English after being defeated in the Battle of Maupertuis by the black prince Edward of Woodstock . After he was released by paying ransom, he was responsible for fighting the Jacquerie in Champagne from 1358 . At times he was at war with Duke John I of Lorraine .

Marriage and children

Heinrich married Maria von Luxemburg in 1347 from the French branch of the Luxembourg imperial family . Her father was Count Johann I von Ligny . With Maria he had two daughters:

  • Margarethe (* 1354; † 1418), Countess of Vaudémont and mistress of Joinville, ∞ Friedrich I of Lothringen (1368–1415), Lord of Rümmingen
  • Alix († 1413), ∞ Theobald VII., Lord of Neufchâtel
