Heinrich August Fabricius (* 1764 in Berlin ; † January 4, 1821 in Magdeburg ) was a German actor and theater director .

Life

At the age of 15, Fabricius made his debut as an actor in Berlin in 1779 . Subsequently, he joined a theater company . He was usually hired for one season, but was usually able to switch to another without a break. Between 1792 and 1796 he was a member of the ensemble of Johann Carl Tilly and then Alois Hostovsky (1756-1821) brought him into his company.

There Fabricius became a director in 1803 and came to the Magdeburg Theater with Hostovsky. There he also often worked with Friedrich Ludwig Schmidt (1772–1841). In 1804 the Magdeburg council engaged Fabricius as director for a longer period of time and when the city gave up the management of this theater in the following year, he took over the entire management with Hostovsky with effect from September 1st.

Under the aegis of Fabricus and Hostovsky, “ stars ” such as Carl Ludwig Costenoble , Ludwig Devrient , August Wilhelm Iffland and Friederike Unzelmann were brought to Magdeburg for guest performances. Regular guest performances by the entire ensemble in Braunschweig , Halberstadt and Halle (Saale) also became common. During this time, the close collaboration with Ernst August Friedrich Klingemann also developed .

Fabricius was a liberal and a Freemason . In 1797 he became a member of the Magdeburg Lodge Ferdinand for happiness . At least around 1817 he lived at Dreienengelstraße 3 in Magdeburg .

Despite its artistic success, the theater was economically unsustainable. 1821 committed Fabricius during a performance ( Don Carlos ) suicide .
