Heinrich Basedow the Elder
Wilhelm Heinrich Johann Theodor Basedow (* 1865 in Berlin , † 1930 in Potsdam ) was a German portrait and landscape painter. To distinguish it from his son of the same name , who was also active as a visual artist, he is called Heinrich Basedow the Elder .
Basedow studied at the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin with Eugen Bracht and at the Karlsruhe Art Academy with Gustav Schönleber .
He married Caroline Bohnhof on November 1, 1889 in Gressow .
From 1896 he was a member of the " Association of Berlin Artists " and from 1898 of the " Berlin Secession ". After moving to Potsdam in 1900, Basedow became a co-founder of the Potsdam Art Association. He took part in the great Berlin art exhibitions in 1894 and 1914.
