Heinrich Gärtner ( October 4, 1860 in Ingelheim am Rhein - July 22, 1929 in Düsseldorf ) was a German theater actor , opera singer ( bass ) and theater director .

Life

Gärtner attended the royal music school in Munich, where he was trained for a stage career by Heinrich Richter . This was followed by engagements in Halle, at the Viktoriatheater in Berlin, in Sigmaringen, at the Meiningen Court Theater and at the Coburg Court Theater (1882). He then worked in Kassel from 1884 to 1892, then for two years at the Hofbühne in Hanover and in 1894 joined the Association of the State Theater in Prague. The artist had proven himself in his previous engagements preferably in acting (heroic fathers) and proved himself as “Odoardo Galotti”, “Stauffacher”, “Paul Werner”, “Buttler”, “Hagen”, “Talbot”, “Verina” etc. artistic skills until Angelo Neumann induced him to further develop his voice, which had already been tried and tested, and to devote himself entirely to opera. Gärtner followed this advice with great success and achieved a strong impact as an opera singer in front of the severely judging Prague audience without completely renouncing the drama, until he received a call to the Dresden court theater in 1902. He made a guest appearance there, found unanimous recognition and was immediately committed to this court stage, which won an excellent, serious bass from Gärtner. "King Heinrich", "Landgraf", "Sarastro", "Hagen", "Daland", "Cardinal", "Pogner" etc. were among his most excellent performances.

From 1903 to 1913 he worked at the Opera House in Düsseldorf as an actor, from 1908 also as a director. Later he also worked in Duisburg.
