Heinrich Gottlieb Schmieder
Henrich Gottlieb Schmieder (born June 3, 1763 near Dresden , † 1815 in St. Petersburg ) was a German theater poet and writer.
Life
Schmieder studied law and received his doctorate in 1786. He then settled in Düben as a notary / lawyer . However, he soon joined the Saxon Bellegardian Cuirassier Regiment stationed here as a premier lieutenant (as regimental quartermaster). However, he quit this service again in 1788.
For since his student days and also as an officer, Schmieder had appeared as a playwright, writing plays and opera libretti, but also German translations of French and Italian libretti. As a result, he became relatively well-known in the professional world, and last year he accepted an offer as a theater poet at the newly founded Electoral National Theater in Mainz , which was under the management of Wolfgang Heribert von Dalberg . Here he wrote the prologue for the inauguration of the theater. Schmieder apparently remained in this position until 1792.
From 1796 he worked as a theater poet and director at the Altona Theater; from June 1800 additionally as its co-director. His active writing activity moved him to become a co-owner of a bookshop.
In 1803 Schmieder appeared as director of the newly built theater in the Hamburg suburb of St. Georg.
In the following year Joseph Miré hired him as assistant to the management of the German Theater in St. Petersburg. From 1805 to 1815 Schmieder appeared, now in a completely different activity, as a consultant at the Reichs-Justizkollegio in St. Petersburg (as such, the newspaper for the elegant world reported his death on December 8, 1815). From here he wrote correspondence reports on the St. Petersburg Theater and other things for the " Morgenblatt der Bildungsstand ".
As a director, Schmieder tried to imitate AW Iffland by leading the staff without theater laws, only through the compulsion of decency and a feeling of duty kept alive.
His rich work consists of a large number of comedies, poems, singspiele, operas, tragedy and plays, but also travelogues. Sometimes he made the former category as translations and adaptations.
In addition, he was active as editor of: " General Theater Journal " (Frankfurt a. M., 1792), " Newspaper for Theater and other fine arts " (Leipzig, 1793-94), " The Rheinische Musen or newspaper for theater and others Schöne Künste "(1794 - 97 in seven volumes)," Taschenbuch fürs Theater "(Mannheim on 1795 and 1796) as well as (... on 1798 and 1799)". " Journal for theater and other fine arts " (Hamburg, 1797 - 98), "Taschenbuch fürs Theater, on 1798 and 1799" (Mainz-Hamburg, 1798), " New Journal for Theater and Other Fine Arts " (Hamburg, 1799/1800), " Taschenbuch fürs Theater " (Hamburg, 1801), " Theater calendar for the year 1804" (Hamburg), " St. Petersburg pocket calendar for the theater in 1805" (in it by Schmieder: "Brief history of the German theaters in St. Petersburg").
